Diplomate of Acupuncture
A Diplomate of Acupuncture is an acupuncturist who is certified by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM®). It is a considerable professional achievement to earn the designation Diplomate of Acupuncture (NCCAOM). NCCAOM certification indicates to employers, patients, and peers that one has met national standards for the safe and competent practice of acupuncture as defined by the acupuncture and Oriental medicine (AOM) profession. Commonwealth of Massachusetts Licensed Acupuncturist
The practice of acupuncture: the practice of medicine based upon traditional oriental medical theories; primarily the insertion of metal needles through the skin at certain points on the body, with or without the use of herbs, with or without the application of electric current, and with or without the application of heat to the needles, skin, or both, in an attempt to relieve pain or improve bodily function. Electroacupuncture, whether utilizing electrodes on the surface of the skin or current applied to inserted needles, and laser acupuncture are considered the practice of acupuncture.
State of New Hampshire Licensed Acupuncturist
The scope of practice of licensed acupuncturists includes the “allied techniques and modalities of Oriental medicine, both traditional and modern.” It includes: diagnostic procedures; electrical and magnetic stimulation; moxibustion and other forms of heat therapy; cupping and scraping techniques; dietary, nutritional and herbal therapies; life-style counseling; acupressure, and massage. Acupuncturists must use sterile, disposable, one-use needles and must use Clean Needle Technique.
